60th Anniversary Poetry Competition
To mark the 60th year of trading for Weasdale Nurseries, we are running a national poetry competition, open to all, to celebrate The Tree.
You are invited to submit up to 3 poems, each of not more than 40 lines, written in English, under the broad theme of “The Tree”; you are free to entitle it as you wish, but your poem should reflect the given subject in its content.
Over the years, we have supported a number of local charities and this year, we have chosen to support The Worsdworth Trust and 50p from the entry fee for every poem entered, will be passed over to this organisation, who are based at Wordsworth's Dove Cottage in Grasmere and who champion the works of William Wordsworth through this unique museum in the heart of the English Lake District. Their current Poet-in-Residence, Emma Jones, is also one of our judges along with Alston-based poet, Josephine Dickinson and poet, writer and cultural activist, Mick North.

60th Anniversary Painting Competition
We had launched the painting competition in parallel with the poetry competition but will not shy from admitting that we must have rather mis-judged the positioning of its format as we have had virtually no response whatsoever to the challenge. This could be slightly embarrassing, but we would certainly welcome any feedback if something in its "pitch" has led to this vaccuum of entries....
