NURSERY WORKER 

We are looking for a full-time nursery worker to join our team.  A formal horticultural or nursery training would be ideal, but not essential; a farming background equally useful. Propagation expertise would allow expansion of the position's responsibilities. Similarly, chainsaw or pesticide application certification, mechanical or countryside skills will all be appropriate.  Most important is good health and a capacity for hard physical work in all the weather conditions that our upland location at 850 ft elevation delivers. 

The job will or may include any of the following activities: the lifting (ie digging up) of trees and shrubs and then packing them for mail order despatch; planting out and transplanting of nursery stock; weeding; pruning and general maintenance of stock trees and shrubs; raising of nursery stock from seed, cuttings and grafting; nursery/estate management tasks including grasscutting, strimming, fencing, walling, woodland management, tractor driving and use of tractor-mounted and manually controlled machinery; firewood processing; machinery maintenance.

The position requires the ability to work unsupervised and with accuracy.

Work in a bare-root nursery such as ours involves much spade work and we cannot emphasise enough the tough physical nature of this position.  Variety comes with the changing seasons and the demands of the growing stock and surrounding estate.

The nurseries are not serviced by regular public transport and so applicants should have independent means of daily transport.

Salary upwards of £260 per week according to skill level.  We shall initially offer a 1 year contract after a 2 month probationary period, with the prospect of a permanent position beyond the initial 12 month term.
