Welcome to the website of Weasdale Nurseries, retail mail-order specialist suppliers of hardy trees and shrubs since 1950.
Servicing customers throughout EC Europe, our open-ground grown plants are carefully packed and shipped to our customers during the period of winter dormancy, from early November until mid-late April, ready for planting in their new surroundings.
Please take your time to move around our site and discover what we have to offer, how we do business, how to order, how to plant your trees and much more besides. We look forward to welcoming you as a new customer in the near future.
2011/2012 Season - Lifting and Despatching Update Friday 3rd February 2012.
At last, some proper winter weather that the plants, the ground and the biological clocks all need; -12C at 8:00am this morning so no lifting and packing of orders today. But then if we sent you some plants today, you wouldn't be able to plant them so, clearly, we are brought into harmony by nature.
A customer earlier today was considering the protection of his new Weasdale Christmas trees from the various beasties that are / might be intent on eating or damaging them. He found our various website notes and planting instructions helpful, but nowhere could he find what he should use to guard against attack by the Porcupines that his (it has to be said, North American) reference book said are likely to be a problem. We think that a Skunk should do the trick....
We are only 1/2 of the way into the 2011-12 planting season, so there is plenty of time to sort out your requirements for this year. Please remember or, if this is a revelation to you, know that, we are one of the last nurseries in the country to close its doors for bare-root plant despatches in the spring. Our altitude, northerly latitude and north-facing site all conspire to keep our plants tightly budded until long after most of the rest of the country is bathed in the green-ness and blossoms of Spring; our last orders usually leave us in late April or early May. We don't use cold stores - there's no need, as nature provides our very own outdoor one for us.
Red Squirrels
Many of you may know that the nurseries here are a stronghold of the endangered native Red Squirrel and we are on the front line of the invading Grey Squirrel's territory. This year, we shall be reviving a "Squirrel Added Tax" which will mean that 10p per tree sold from the qualifying conifers, will be paid over at the end of the season to our local Red Squirrel conservation group. You can do you bit by choosing your trees from the list of qualifying trees. (There will be a link to click here very soon)
In the meantime, for an "aaah!" moment, click here: Bold little Red Squirrel for a brief introduction to an endearing friend of ours.... Her first approach was in the depths of a bitterly cold winter 2009, when probably particularly hungry.
Weasdale Nurseries are suppliers of bare root trees, Conifers, Hardy trees and shrubs, Hedge plants and planting sundries such as tree stakes, shelters and ties all by mail order.
